Where were you born?  I was born in Harlingen, Texas, which is about 25 miles from Mexico.
What was your favorite book when you were in elementary school?  I LOVED Nancy Drew books, and I had my own collection of them.
Do you have any pets?  I have a cat named Pierre.  He is black and white and has a little black beard under his mouth.  He looks like he belongs in France so we gave him a French name.
How old were you when you wrote your first book?  I was 10 years old and in the 4th grade when I got a blue folder, filled it with notebook paper, and started writing.  Because I loved Nancy Drew, I wrote a mystery. I still have the blue notebook with the story in it. I've kept it all these years because I always hoped that someday I would be a writer.
How did it feel when you found out your first book would be published?  At first, I was speechless!  When I could talk again, I called my parents and all my friends.
How did you get the idea for T.J. Westin, Man of the House?  I was watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire on TV, and I wondered what it would be like if a kid won big money on a TV game show.
Is it hard to be a writer? Oh, no!  I think it's fun! I start with an idea for the plot then begin to create the characters. When I have the plot and the characters in my head, the story seems to blossom and grow on its own. I'm very thankful that I've been able to write children's books.  Not only do I think writing is fun, it has also given me a wonderful chance to visit schools and make new friends.  I hope that some day I will be able to meet YOU!
